Acts 2:36
The whole Jewish nation must know for sure that God has made this Jesus, both Lord and Christ. He is the One you nailed to a cross!
2 Corinthians 12:7-10
The things God showed me were so great. But to keep me from being too full of pride because of seeing these things, I have been given trouble in my body. It was sent from Satan to hurt me. It keeps me from being proud. I asked the Lord three times to take it away from me. He answered me, “I am all you need. I give you My loving-favor. My power works best in weak people.” I am happy to be weak and have troubles so I can have Christ’s power in me. I receive joy when I am weak. I receive joy when people talk against me and make it hard for me and try to hurt me and make trouble for me. I receive joy when all these things come to me because of Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 4:7-18
We have this light from God in our human bodies. This shows that the power is from God. It is not from ourselves. We are pressed on every side, but we still have room to move. We are often in much trouble, but we never give up. People make it hard for us, but we are not left alone. We are knocked down, but we are not destroyed. We carry marks on our bodies that show the death of Jesus. This is how Jesus makes His life seen in our bodies. Every day of our life we face death because of Jesus. In this way, His life is seen in our bodies. Death is working in us because we work for the Lord, but His life is working in you. The Holy Writings say, “I believed, so I spoke.” We have the same kind of faith as David had. We also believe, so we speak. 14 We know that God raised the Lord Jesus from the dead. He will raise us up also. God will take us to Himself and He will take you. These things happened for your good. As more people receive God’s favor, they will give thanks for the shining-greatness of God. This is the reason we do not give up. Our human body is wearing out. But our spirits are getting stronger every day. The little troubles we suffer now for a short time are making us ready for the great things God is going to give us forever. We do not look at the things that can be seen. We look at the things that cannot be seen. The things that can be seen will come to an end. But the things that cannot be seen will last forever.
Romans 8:28-39
We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who love Him and are chosen to be a part of His plan. God knew from the beginning who would put their trust in Him. So He chose them and made them to be like His Son. Christ was first and all those who belong to God are His brothers. He called to Himself also those He chose. Those He called, He made right with Himself. Then He shared His shining-greatness with those He made right with Himself. What can we say about all these things? Since God is for us, who can be against us? God did not keep His own Son for Himself but gave Him for us all. Then with His Son, will He not give us all things? Who can say anything against the people God has chosen? It is God Who says they are right with Himself. Who then can say we are guilty? It was Christ Jesus Who died. He was raised from the dead. He is on the right side of God praying to Him for us. Who can keep us away from the love of Christ? Can trouble or problems? Can suffering wrong from others or having no food? Can it be because of no clothes or because of danger or war? 36 The Holy Writings say, “Because of belonging to Jesus, we are in danger of being killed all day long. We are thought of as sheep that are ready to be killed.” But we have power over all these things through Jesus Who loves us so much. For I know that nothing can keep us from the love of God. Death cannot! Life cannot! Angels cannot! Leaders cannot! Any other power cannot! Hard things now or in the future cannot! The world above or the world below cannot! Any other living thing cannot keep us away from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.
Genesis 50:18-20
Then his brothers came and fell down in front of him and said, “See, we are your servants.” But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You planned to do a bad thing to me. But God planned it for good, to make it happen that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.
1 Chronicles 11:4-9
David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (that is, Jebus). And the Jebusites, the people of the land, were there. The people of Jebus said to David, “You will not come in here.” But David took the strong-place of Zion (that is, the city of David). Now David had said, “Whoever kills a Jebusite first will be captain and leader.” Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, so he became captain. Then David lived in the strong-place. So it was called the city of David. He built the city all around, from the Millo and then around. And Joab built the rest of the city up again. David became greater and greater, for the Lord of All was with him.
1 Kings 18:26-40
So they took the bull which was given to them and made it ready. Then they called on the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, “O Baal, answer us.” But there was no voice. No one answered. They jumped and danced around the altar they had made. At noon Elijah made fun of them. He said, “Call out with a loud voice, for he is a god. It might be that he is in deep thought or has turned away. He could be away traveling. Or it may be that he is asleep and needs to have someone wake him.” So they cried with a loud voice. They cut themselves as they had done in the past, with swords and spears until blood poured out on them. When noon passed, they cried out until the time for giving the evening gift. But there was no voice. No one answered. No one listened. Then Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” So all the people came near to him. And he built again the altar of the Lord which had been torn down. Then Elijah took twelve stones, by the number of the families of Jacob’s sons. The word of the Lord had come to Jacob’s sons, saying, “Israel will be your name.” With the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord. And he made a ditch around the altar, big enough to hold twenty-two jars of seed. Then he set the wood in place. He cut the bull in pieces and laid it on the wood. And he said, “Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt gift and on the wood.” Then he said, “Do it a second time.” And they did it a second time. He said, “Do it a third time.” And they did it a third time. The water flowed around the altar, and filled the ditch also. Then the time came for giving the evening gift. Elijah the man who spoke for God came near and said, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that You are God in Israel. Let it be known that I am Your servant, and have done all these things at Your word. Answer me, O Lord. Answer me so these people may know that You, O Lord, are God. Turn their hearts to You again.” Then the fire of the Lord fell. It burned up the burnt gift, the wood, the stones and the dust. And it picked up the water that was in the ditch. All the people fell on their faces when they saw it. They said, “The Lord, He is God. The Lord, He is God.” Then Elijah said to them, “Take hold of the men who speak for Baal. Do not let one of them get away.” So they took hold of them. And Elijah brought them down to the river Kishon, and killed them there.
1 Samuel 17:38-50
Then Saul dressed David with his clothes. He put a brass head covering on his head, and dressed him with heavy battle-clothes. David put on his sword over his heavy battle-clothes and tried to walk, for he was not used to them. Then David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, for I am not used to them.” And David took them off. He took his stick in his hand, and chose five smooth stones from the river. He put them in his shepherd’s bag. His sling was in his hand, and he went to the Philistine. The Philistine came near to David, with the man carrying his shield in front of him. When the Philistine looked and saw David, he thought nothing of him. For he was only a young man, with good color in his skin, and good-looking. The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine spoke against David by his gods. The Philistine said to David, “Come to me. I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the animals of the field.” Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and spears. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of All, the God of the armies of Israel, Whom you have stood against. This day the Lord will give you into my hands. I will knock you down and cut off your head. This day I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines to the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the earth. Then all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. All these people gathered here may know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.” Then the Philistine rose up and came to meet David. And David rushed to the center of the valley to meet the Philistine. David put his hand into his bag, took out a stone and threw it, and hit the Philistine on his forehead. The stone went into his forehead, so that he fell on his face to the ground. So David won the fight against the Philistine with a sling and a stone. He hit the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in David’s hand.
1 Samuel 7:7-12
The Philistines heard that the people of Israel had gathered at Mizpah, so the leaders of the Philistines went to battle against them. When the people of Israel heard about it, they were afraid of the Philistines. The Israelites said to Samuel, “Do not stop crying to the Lord our God for us, that He may save us from the Philistines.” Samuel took a young lamb and gave it as a whole burnt gift to the Lord. Samuel cried to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him. As Samuel was burning the gift to the Lord, the Philistines came near to battle against Israel. But the Lord made a loud thunder that day against the Philistines, making them afraid. So they lost the battle with Israel. The men of Israel left Mizpah and went after the Philistines, killing them almost as far as Bethcar. Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpah and Shen. He gave it the name Ebenezer, saying, “The Lord has helped us this far.”
Judges 15:11-19
Then 3,000 men of Judah went down to the opening of the rock of Etam and said to Samson, “Do you not know that the Philistines rule over us? What is this that you have done to us?” Samson said to them, “I have done to them as they did to me.” They said to him, “We have come to take you and give you to the Philistines.” Samson said to them, “Promise me that you will not kill me.” So they said to him, “No, we will only tie you up and give you to them. We will not kill you.” So they tied him with two new ropes and brought him up from the rock. When Samson came to Lehi, the Philistines came with a loud noise to meet him. The Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson with power. The ropes on his arms became as weak as a burning plant, and fell from his hands. Samson found a jawbone of a donkey and took it in his hand. He killed 1,000 men with it. Then Samson said, “With the bone of a donkey there are bodies upon bodies. With the bone of a donkey I have killed 1,000 men.” When he was done speaking, he threw the bone from his hand. And he called that place Ramath-lehi. Then Samson became very thirsty. He called to the Lord and said, “You have taken us away from trouble by the hand of Your servant. Now must I die of thirst and fall into the hands of those who have not gone through our religious act?” But God broke open a place in Lehi, and water came out of it. When Samson drank, his strength returned. He received new life. So he called the place En-hakkore. It is in Lehi to this day.
Joshua 6
Now the gates of Jericho were all shut because of the people of Israel. No one went out and no one came in. The Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and soldiers. Walk around the city. Have all the men of war go around the city once. Do this for six days. Seven religious leaders will carry seven rams’ horns. They will walk in front of the special box of the agreement. Then on the seventh day you will walk around the city seven times. And the religious leaders will blow horns. When you hear the long sound of the ram’s horn, all the people should call out with a loud noise. The wall of the city will fall to the ground. And then all the people will all go in the city.” So Joshua the son of Nun called the religious leaders and said to them, “Take up the special box of the agreement. And let seven religious leaders carry seven rams’ horns in front of the special box of the agreement.” Then he said to the people, “Go and walk around the city. Let the men ready for battle go in front of the special box of the agreement.” When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven religious leaders carrying the seven rams’ horns before the Lord walked on and blew the horns. And the special box of the agreement of the Lord followed them. The men ready for battle went in front of the religious leaders who blew the horns. The other soldiers came behind the special box of the agreement while the horns sounded without stopping. But Joshua told the people, “Do not call out or let your voice be heard. Not a word should come from your mouth until the day I tell you to call out. Then you must call out.” So he had the special box of the agreement taken around the city once. Then they returned to the tents and stayed there through the night. Joshua got up early in the morning. And the religious leaders took up the special box of the agreement. The seven religious leaders carrying the seven rams’ horns in front of the special box of the agreement began walking and blew the horns without stopping. The men ready for battle went in front of them. The other soldiers came behind the special box of the agreement. And the horns sounded without stopping. The second day they walked around the city once. Then they returned to the tents. They did this for six days. On the seventh day they got up early at the rising of the sun. They walked around the city in the same way, but on that day they walked around the city seven times. The seventh time, when the religious leaders blew their horns, Joshua said to the people, “Call out! For the Lord has given you the city. The city and all that is in it must be destroyed because everything in it belongs to the Lord. Only Rahab, the woman who sells the use of her body, and all who are with her in the house will live, because she hid the men we sent. But keep yourselves from the things that are to be destroyed. Or while you give them up to be destroyed, you might desire them. Then you would make the camp of Israel sinful also, and bring trouble on it. But all the silver and gold and objects of brass and iron are holy to the Lord. They will go into the store-house of the Lord.” So the people called out and the religious leaders blew the horns. When the people heard the sound of the horns, they called out even louder. And the wall fell to the ground. All the people went straight in and took the city. They destroyed everything in the city, both man and woman, young and old, cattle, sheep, and donkey, with the sword. Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the house of the woman who sells the use of her body. Bring out the woman and all who are with her, as you promised her.” So the young men who had spied out the land went in, and brought out Rahab and her father and mother and brothers and all she had. They brought out all of her family and took them outside the tents of Israel. Then they burned the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only the silver and gold and objects of brass and iron they put into the store-house of the holy tent of the Lord. Joshua saved the life of Rahab, the woman who sold the use of her body, and those of her father’s house and all she had. She has lived among Israel to this day, because she hid the men Joshua had sent to spy out Jericho. Then Joshua made them promise at that time, saying, “May the Lord destroy the man who gets up and builds this city of Jericho. With the loss of his first-born he will begin to build it. With the loss of his youngest son he will set up its gates.” So the Lord was with Joshua. He was well known and respected in all the land.
Exodus 17:8-16
Then Amalek came and fought against Israel at Rephidim. So Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us. And go out and fight against Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the special stick of God in my hand.” Joshua did as Moses told him. He fought against Amalek. And Moses, Aaron and Hur went up to the top of the hill. When Moses held up his hand, Israel would be winning. But when he let his hand down, Amalek would win. Moses’ hands became tired. So they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. Then Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on each side. His hands did not move until the sun went down. So Joshua destroyed Amalek and his people with the sword. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this in a book, to be remembered, and tell Joshua that I will take away everything under heaven that would help you remember Amalek.” Moses built an altar and gave it the name The Lord is My Banner. And he said, “Because the Lord has promised to have war against Amalek through all time.”
Psalm 112:1-8
Praise the Lord! How happy is the man who honors the Lord with fear and finds joy in His Law! His children will be powerful in the land. Each family who is right will be happy. Riches and well-being are in his house. And his right-standing with God will last forever. Light rises even in darkness for the one who is right. He is kind and has loving-pity and does what is right. Good will come to the man who is ready to give much, and fair in what he does. He will never be shaken. The man who is right and good will be remembered forever. He will not be afraid of bad news. His heart is strong because he trusts in the Lord. His heart will not be shaken. He will not be afraid and will watch those lose who fight against him.
Exodus 23:20-33
“See, I am sending an angel before you to keep you safe on the way. He will bring you to the place I have made ready. Listen to him and obey his voice. Do not turn against him, for he will not forgive your sins, because My name is in him. But if you obey his voice and do all that I say, then I will hate those who hate you and fight against those who fight against you. For My angel will go before you and bring you into the land of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites. And I will destroy them. Do not worship their gods, or serve them, or act like them. But you are to destroy them and break their pillars of worship to pieces. Serve the Lord your God and He will give you bread and water. And I will take sickness from among you. Women in your land will not lose their babies before they are born, and will be able to give birth. I will give you a full life. I will send My fear before you. The people you meet will be afraid. And I will make all those who hate you run away from you. I will send hornets before you. They will drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites and the Hittites before you come. I will not move them out of your way in one year. So the land will not become a waste, and the animals of the field become too many for you. I will drive them out a few at a time, until you become many and take the land for your own. I will give you the land from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the Euphrates River. For I will give you power over the people of the land. And you will drive them away from you. Make no agreement with them or their gods. They are not to live in your land, or they will make you sin against Me. If you worship their gods, for sure it will be a trap to you.”
2 Corinthians 2:14
We thank God for the power Christ has given us. He leads us and makes us win in everything. He speaks through us wherever we go. The Good News is like a sweet smell to those who hear it.
1 Corinthians 15:57-58
But God is the One Who gives us power over sin through Jesus Christ our Lord. We give thanks to Him for this. So then, Christian brothers, because of all this, be strong. Do not allow anyone to change your mind. Always do your work well for the Lord. You know that whatever you do for Him will not be wasted.
Psalm 18:31-49
For Who is God, but the Lord? And who is a rock except our God? It is God Who covers me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer. And He sets me on my high places. He teaches me how to fight, so that I can use a bow of brass. You have also given me the covering that saves me. Your right hand holds me up. And Your care has made me great. You make the road wide for my steps, and my feet have not tripped. I went after those who fight against me, and caught them. And I did not return until they were destroyed. I hit them so they were not able to rise. They fell under my feet. You have given me strength for war. You have put under me those who have fought against me. You have made them turn their backs to me also. And I destroyed those who hated me. 41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save. They cried to the Lord, but He did not answer them. Then I beat them as small as the dust in the wind. I emptied them out like mud in the streets. You have taken me away from the fighting of the people. You have made me the leader of nations. People whom I have not known will serve me. As soon as they hear, they obey me. Those from other lands obey me. These people from other lands lose their strength of heart. And they come shaking from behind their walls. The Lord lives! How great is my Rock! Praise be to the God Who saves me! He is the God Who punishes those who have done wrong to me. He puts nations under my rule. He saves me from those who hate me. Yes, You lift me above those who rise up against me. You save me from those who want to hurt me. So I will give thanks to You among the nations, O Lord. And I will sing praises to Your name.
