Acts 5:33-40
The religious leaders became angry when they heard this. They planned to kill the missionaries. Gamaliel was a man of the religious leaders’ court. He was a proud religious law-keeper and a teacher of the Law. He was respected by all the people. He stood up and said that the missionaries should be sent outside for a short time. Then Gamaliel said to the court, “Jewish men, be careful what you plan to do with these men. Remember that many years ago a man called Theudas made himself out to be someone great. He had about 400 followers. He was killed. His followers were divided and nothing came of his teaching. After him, Judas of the country of Galilee gathered many followers. It was the time for every person to have his name written in the books of the nation. This Judas was killed also. All his followers were divided and went away. I say to you now, stay away from these men and leave them alone. If this teaching and work is from men, it will come to nothing. If it is from God, you will not be able to stop it. You may even find yourselves fighting against God.” The court agreed with Gamaliel. So they called the missionaries in and beat them. They told them they must not speak in the name of Jesus. Then they were sent away.

Matthew 22:15-22
Then the proud religious law-keepers got together to think how they could trap Jesus in His talk. They sent their followers to Jesus with some of King Herod’s men. They asked, “Teacher, we know that You are true. We know that You are teaching the truth about God. We know You are not afraid of what men think or say about You. Tell us what You think of this. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?” Jesus knew their sinful thoughts and said, “You pretend to be someone you are not! Why do you try to trap Me? Show Me a piece of money.” They brought Him a piece. Jesus said to them, “Whose picture is this? Whose name is on it?” They said to Him, “Caesar’s.” Then He said to them, “Pay to Caesar the things that belong to Caesar. Pay to God the things that belong to God.” When they heard this, they were surprised and wondered about it. Then they went away from Him.

Daniel 2:10-16
Those who learn from stars answered the king and said, “There is not a man on earth who can do this for the king. For no great king or ruler has ever asked anything like this of any wonder-worker or one who learns from stars. What the king asks is too hard. No one can do it for you except the gods, who do not live among men.” Because of this the king became very angry and said that all the wise men of Babylon must be destroyed. So the law was sent out that the wise men must be killed. They looked for Daniel and his friends, to kill them also. God Shows Daniel the Meaning of the Dream Then Daniel spoke with wisdom and understanding to Arioch, the captain of the soldiers who watched over the king, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon. He said to Arioch, the king’s captain, “Why is the king’s law so hard?” Then Arioch told him what had happened. So Daniel went in and asked the king for time, so that he could tell the king what the dream meant.

Daniel 1:8-15
But Daniel made up his mind that he would not make himself unclean with the king’s best food and wine. So he asked the head ruler to allow him not to make himself unclean. Now God gave Daniel favor and pity in the eyes of the head ruler. The head ruler said to him, “I am afraid of my lord the king, who has said you were to have so much and he would see that you were not looking as good as the other young men who are as old as you. The king would cut off my head because of you.” Then Daniel said to the man whom the head ruler had chosen to watch over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, “Test your servants for ten days. Give us only vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then compare how we look with the young men who are eating the king’s best food. And do with us what you think is best by what you see.” So he listened to them, and tested them for ten days. At the end of ten days they looked even better. They were fatter than all the young men who had been eating the king’s best food.

Nehemiah 2:1-6
In the month Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, wine was in front of him. And I took up the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad in front of him before. So the king said to me, “Why is your face so sad when you are not sick? It must be that you are sad in your heart.” Then I was very much afraid. I said to the king, “Let the king live forever. Why should my face not be sad when the city, the place of my fathers’ graves, lies waste and its gates destroyed by fire?” Then the king said to me, “What are you asking for?” So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your eyes, send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ graves. Let me build it again.” The king said to me, with the queen sitting beside him, “How long will you be gone, and when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me, and I set him a time.

Genesis 26:26-31
Then Abimelech came to him from Gerar, with his friend Ahuzzath, and Phicol, the leader of his army. Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me when you hate me and have sent me away from you?” They said, “It is easy for us to see that the Lord is with you. So we said, ‘Let there now be a promise between us, between you and us. Let us make an agreement with you, that you will not hurt us in any way. For we have not touched you, and have done nothing to you but good. We sent you away in peace. And you now have the Lord’s favor.’” So Isaac made a special supper for them, and they ate and drank. They got up early in the morning and made promises to each other. Then Isaac sent them away, and they left him in peace.

Acts 9:23-25
After some days the Jews talked together and made plans how they might kill Saul. He heard of their plans. Day and night they watched for him at the city gates to kill him. So the followers helped him get away at night. They let him down over the wall in a basket.

1 Samuel 17:38-50
Then Saul dressed David with his clothes. He put a brass head covering on his head, and dressed him with heavy battle-clothes. David put on his sword over his heavy battle-clothes and tried to walk, for he was not used to them. Then David said to Saul, “I cannot go with these, for I am not used to them.” And David took them off. He took his stick in his hand, and chose five smooth stones from the river. He put them in his shepherd’s bag. His sling was in his hand, and he went to the Philistine. The Philistine came near to David, with the man carrying his shield in front of him. When the Philistine looked and saw David, he thought nothing of him. For he was only a young man, with good color in his skin, and good-looking. The Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine spoke against David by his gods. The Philistine said to David, “Come to me. I will give your flesh to the birds of the sky and the animals of the field.” Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and spears. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of All, the God of the armies of Israel, Whom you have stood against. This day the Lord will give you into my hands. I will knock you down and cut off your head. This day I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines to the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the earth. Then all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. All these people gathered here may know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.” Then the Philistine rose up and came to meet David. And David rushed to the center of the valley to meet the Philistine. David put his hand into his bag, took out a stone and threw it, and hit the Philistine on his forehead. The stone went into his forehead, so that he fell on his face to the ground. So David won the fight against the Philistine with a sling and a stone. He hit the Philistine and killed him. There was no sword in David’s hand.

Mark 3:6-8
The proud religious law-keepers went out and made plans with the followers of King Herod how they might kill Jesus. Jesus went with His followers to the sea. Many people followed Him from the countries of Galilee and Judea. They followed from Jerusalem and from the country of Idumea. They came from the other side of the Jordan River and from the cities of Tyre and Sidon.

Matthew 12:14-15
The proud religious law-keepers went out and made plans against Him. They planned how they might kill Him. Jesus knew this and went away from there. Many people followed Him and He healed all of them.

Acts 14:5-7
All the people and the leaders tried to hurt them and throw stones at them. When Paul and Barnabas heard this, they got away and went to the cities of Lystra and Derbe in Lycaonia and to the country close by. They stayed there and kept on preaching the Good News.

Matthew 5:25-26
Agree with the one who is against you while you are talking together, or he might take you to court. The court will hand you over to the police. You will be put in prison. For sure, I tell you, you will not be let out of prison until you have paid every piece of money of the fine.

Proverbs 6:1-9
My son, if you have put yourself as a trust for what your neighbor owes to another, or if you have made a promise for a stranger, you have been trapped with the words of your lips. You have been caught with the words of your mouth. Do this now, my son, and get yourself out of trouble, for you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go without pride and beg your neighbor to let you go. Do not let your eyes sleep. Do not let your eyes close. Take yourself away like a deer from the man who kills animals, and like a bird from the hand of the man who catches birds. Go to the ant, O lazy person. Watch and think about her ways, and be wise. She has no leader, head or ruler, but she gets her food ready in the summer, and gathers her food at the right time. How long will you lie down, O lazy person? When will you rise up from your sleep?

Proverbs 22:26-27
Do not be among those who make promises and put themselves up as trust for what others owe. If you have nothing with which to pay, why should he take your bed from under you?

Matthew 25:14-30
“For the holy nation of heaven is like a man who was going to a country far away. He called together the servants he owned and gave them his money to use. He gave to one servant five pieces of money worth much. He gave to another servant two pieces of money worth much. He gave to another servant one piece of money worth much. He gave to each one as he was able to use it. Then he went on his trip. The servant who had the five pieces of money went out to the stores and traded until he made five more pieces. The servant who had two pieces of money did the same thing. He made two more pieces. The servant who had received the one piece of money went and hid the money in a hole in the ground. He hid his owner’s money. “After a long time the owner of those servants came back. He wanted to know what had been done with his money. The one who had received the five pieces of money worth much came and handed him five pieces more. He said, ‘Sir, you gave me five pieces of money. See! I used it and made five more pieces.’ His owner said to him, ‘You have done well. You are a good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things. I will put many things in your care. Come and share my joy.’ The one who received two pieces of money worth much came also. He said, ‘Sir, you gave me two pieces of money. See! I used it and made two more pieces.’ His owner said to him, ‘You have done well. You are a good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things. I will put many things in your care. Come and share my joy.’ The one who had received one piece of money worth much came. He said, ‘Sir, I know that you are a hard man. You gather grain where you have not planted. You take up where you have not spread out. I was afraid and I hid your money in the ground. See! Here is your money.’ His owner said to him, ‘You bad and lazy servant. You knew that I gather grain where I have not planted. You knew that I take up where I have not spread out. You should have taken my money to the bank. When I came back, I could have had my own money and what the bank paid for using it. Take the one piece of money from him. Give it to the one who has ten pieces of money.’ For the man who has will have more given to him. He will have more than enough. The man who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away. Throw the bad servant out into the darkness. There will be loud crying and grinding of teeth.

Proverbs 24:27
Get your work done outside. Make your fields ready. Then after that, build your house.

Genesis 41:33-40
“So now let Pharaoh look for a man who is understanding and wise. Let the land of Egypt be put into his care. Let Pharaoh take action to choose men to watch over the land. And let him take a fifth part of the food of the land of Egypt during the seven years of much food. Let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming. Have them store the grain under the power of Pharaoh, to be used as food in the cities. And let them keep it safe. This food will be kept for the people to eat during the seven years of no food that will come upon the land of Egypt. This way the land will not be destroyed during the time without food.” The plan pleased Pharaoh and all his servants. Then Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this, who has in him the Spirit of God?” So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has shown you all this, there is no one as understanding and wise as you are. My house will be put in your care. And all my people will do as you say. Only on the throne will I be greater than you.”

Proverbs 14:15-18
The one who is easy to fool believes everything, but the wise man looks where he goes. A wise man fears God and turns away from what is sinful, but a fool is full of pride and is not careful. He who has a quick temper acts in a foolish way, and a man who makes sinful plans is hated. Those who are easy to fool are foolish, but the wise have much learning.

Proverbs 14:23-24
A wise man hides how much learning he has, but the heart of fools makes known their foolish way. The hand of those who do their best will rule, but the lazy hand will be made to work.

1 Corinthians 10:12
So watch yourself! The person who thinks he can stand against sin had better watch that he does not fall into sin.
